Custom Tuning the Ford 6.7 Powerstroke Diesel takes full advatange of modern diesel technology. This motor, codenamed Scorpion by Ford Engineers, is all new from the ground up and has many unique features. The block is constructed of compacted graphite iron (CGI) for greater strength while reducing weight. Reverse flow aluminum cylinder heads places the exhuast ports in the lifter valley. The unique inboard exhaust and outboard intake architecture is an automotive-industry first for a modern production diesel engine. In addition, Garrett’s single-sequential turbocharger features an industry-first double-sided compressor wheel mounted on a single shaft. It combines the benefits of a small turbocharger for faster response, and a large turbocharger for more air in one unit. Dual water jackets, six head bolts per cylinder, and a 29,000 psi (1,999 bar) high-pressure common rail Bosch fuel system rounds out the new hardware. The system delivers up to five injection events per cylinder per cycle using eight-hole piezo injectors spraying fuel into the piston bowl. This engine also supports B20 biodiesel, allowing greener fueling options of up to 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum diesel.
As great as this motor is, factory tuning is always a compromise. Custom Diesel Tuning by Gearhead Automotive Performance provides greater driveability and unleashes even more performance from this engine by optimizing fuel delivery and transmission shift points for how you use your truck.
